| Although
the trades and goods change, Kingsbridge retains the character of a market town. The
new Open Market held twice-weekly on the town square is a great success. Although
the cattle market held at Ropewalk has become more irregular. Other Markets
are held in the Town Hall and the Market Hall, both in Fore Street. The weekly
WI market held in the foyer of the Town Hall is particularly popular.
| | | | | | | During
the summer an increasing number of musical concerts and other events are held
on the Town Square. The Town Council has announced plans to build a bandstand
on the Square to mark the Millennium, adding yet another attraction to the area.
The centre of the town has gradually shifted downwards from its historic centre
at the top of Fore Street to the Quay area.
