| | Burgh
Island, in Bigbury Bay.
The island, made famous by Agatha Christie with its magnificently restored
hotel is connected to the mainland by a causeway of sand. When the tide
covers the causeway a sea tractor takes visitors to the island. On the
mainland are the villages of Bigbury on Sea and Challaborough with the
villages of Bigbury, Ringmore and Kingston inland. The mouth of the River
Avon seperates Bigbury and Burgh Island from the village and beach of
Bantham. During the summer months a small ferry runs sporadically across
the river from Bantham. |
