The village of Charleton. The village is divided into East and West Charleton. This is West Charleton nearer to Kingsbridge. The village faces south and has a wonderfully sheltered aspect. The village retains its shop and school and has one inn. Both parts of the village have expanded with many new houses, integrating with the older cottages.

Before the land was reclaimed an arm of the estuary reached the village. Before the nineteenth century the normal transport to Kingsbridge was by water!
The reclaimed land, which was used initially as a target range by local militias is now known as Charleton Marsh, and is now a wildlife reserve. Salt water is allowed to flow onto the land creating an excellent environment for both visiting and resident wildlife.
